Double Ruffle Headband {TUTORIAL}
Looking for a lovely handmade gift to give this Christmas? How about a fancy little Double Ruffle Headband!
These will be my go-to gift for several friends and family members and because they are so simple and quick to make…I thought I’d teach you how to whip them up too! This is my first tutorial so bare with me! If you have any questions I will do me best to answer them in comments. Here we go!
Materials Needed:
2 coordinating fabrics, Goody Headband, sewing supplies
First you are going to pick your fabrics and headband.
Then you are going to cut 2 strips of fabric. One 2x8 and another 1.5x8. If you want to wrap the headband in fabric like I do here you’ll need another strip of fabric about 1x22”.
Turn your short edges under 1/4” and press well. Do this for both strips.
Zigzag your long edges…both strips.
Next you are going to layer your strips. Wider on the bottom. Now you need to run a long gathering stitch down each side 3/8” from the edge of the narrower strip.
Repeat for the other side. You are creating a casing of sorts to slip your headband through.
Now you need to gather your ruffle to about 4” long. Don’t clip your threads yet.
To hold the ruffle in place you are going to sew right on top of the gathering stitch. This time you will backstitch at start and stop. Do your best to stay right on top of your previous stitch. I didn’t do a very good job. I’m sure yours will look nicer!
Should look something like this.
Now you are going to shimmy your headband through the casing you made. Position wherever you want it to lay on the headband.
All that’s left now is to tack down the ruffle to the headband itself. Do this by hand on the top and bottom with thread the color of the headband so you can’t see it. If you are not using a cloth covered headband, I am sure a little dab of hot glue will work just fine.
That’s it! Makes a fun little gift don’t you think? You can even whip up a coordinating zipper pouch like I did. I hope you’ll try it out and if you do…post a pic to my flickr group! For those of you that like the headband, but don’t want to craft your own, I’ll be posting several in the shop this week for the Ucreate Holiday Boutique.

It's no surprise that Shutterfly has lots of fun things to choose from this year too! Here is what I am loving...

Photo Calendars...great for the grandparents!
And lucky for me we already have our Christmas photo all ready to upload! We've been visiting my family up in Northern CA and actually remembered to take pictures this time! I am so thankful for digital cameras! We must have taken about 15 pictures before we got one that was acceptable. How hard is it for everyone to look at the camera and smile at the same time??? Here is one we will not be using for the card, but for reals, how cute is my kid???
I hope you all had a very blessed Thanksgiving and scored lots of great deals during your Black Friday adventures! We start our loooooong drive home tomorrow morning. Pretty excited that the new Sara Bareilles album is on sale at Amazon today for $1.99...yayee for new driving music!
